Chichen Itza can be translated as “mouth of the well”. Some call it “the city of the witches of the water”. During the XI and XII centuries, Chichen Itza reached its urban and cultural development Chichen Itza covers 15 square kilometers and its temples reveal the diverse stages of its development. El Castillo, is dedicated to the god Kukulcan. In its interior, there is a polychrome Chac-mool and during the equinoxes you may witness the Light and Shadow phenomenon on the stairs of this great pyramid. The triangles of shadow show a descending serpent.
Other constructions that are important are: The Ball Court, the Warriors Temple, the Caracol or Observatory. The sacred cenote or sink hole is 60 meters in diameter and 20 meter deep.
