FAUNA AND WORLD HERITAGE SITES
|
World Heritage sites in the Yucatan Peninsula are rich in cultural and
historical importance. Throughout the region, there are numerous historical
Mayan sites that provide a window into more than a thousand years of history
from ancient ruins to today’s indigenous communities. Yucatan World Heritage
sites are also home to many plant and animal species that are native and
endemic to this region like flamingos, jaguars, sea turtles, howler and spider
monkeys, whale sharks, manta rays, butterflies, scarabs, bats and tarantulas,
deer, tapir, opossum, crocodiles and serpents. All this valuable biodiversity
is protected and managed on great or smaller measures by a wide system of protected
natural areas. In this eight days (seven nights) excursion that MAYA NATURE
offers you, you will have the opportunity of visiting the five World Heritage
sites of the Yucatan Peninsula and watch firsthand a great part of this
biodiversity.
