FIVE WORLD HERITAGE SITES |

World Heritage sites in the
Yucatan Peninsula are rich in cultural and historical importance. Throughout
the region, there are numerous historical Mayan sites that provide a window
into more than a thousand years of history from ancient ruins to today’s
indigenous communities. Yucatan World Heritage sites are also home to many
plant and animal species that are native and endemic to this region. In this eight
days (seven nights) excursion that MAYA NATURE offers you, you will have the
opportunity of visiting the five World Heritage sites of the Yucatan Peninsula.

the north of the Yucatan Peninsula from the tenth century A.D., also a World
Heritage site. After lunch at a near by restaurant, we will continue our trip
to Merida, for overnight. Lunch and Dinner on your own. B

Among its vestiges of the post-classic period we find the Governor’s Palace,
that many believe is the most beautiful building in the Maya world. After
visiting this outstanding place, also a World Heritage site. After lunch at a
near-by restaurant we will continue our way to San Francisco de Campeche for
over-night. The only walled city in Mexico and also a World Heritage site,
Campeche is a well-preserved example of a harbor town. Its beautifully restored
historical center represents a model of Baroque colonial city planning and more
than 1,000 buildings of historical value have survived from the Spanish
colonial period of the 17th and 18th centuries. When arriving at Campeche we

site. Its name means “The House of the Snake Mouth”, and is thought to be part
of the great city that was Becan. It owes its name to the façade of structure
II, which is richly decorated with an enormous snake mask that symbolizes the
sacred mountain. Overnight at Chicanna Ecovillage Resort. Lunch and Dinner on your own. B

provide a testament to the city’s advanced political and spiritual development.
After this visit we will procede to Balamku, a site where we find a spectacular
modeling stucco façade with policromy, dated at the end of the Early Classic
period among 550 to 650 A.D. This frieze is considered one of the most
